SHEET TOLERANCE

Treat 3 mm as nominal until the production fit is approved

A material described as 3 mm can have an allowed thickness range. Cutting behavior, protective film, printed layers and the production route can also influence the finished tab and insertion feel. For this reason, a slot should not be released from the number 3.00 alone.

The supplier should confirm the project-specific material tolerance and use it in the base-fit plan. If the order includes several sheet colors, finishes or production lots, confirm whether the same slot setting remains valid or whether each construction needs its own sample check.

Do not convert nominal thickness directly into a slot value

The working slot dimension is a production output. It should account for the actual body tab, material lot, cutting behavior and desired fit. Record the approved result in the final drawing so later production does not depend on memory or a verbal instruction.

Keep the fit decision visible to buyers

A useful sample record identifies whether the body inserts smoothly, stands without unacceptable wobble and can be removed without cracking the tab or base. The target can differ between retail assembly, consumer assembly and permanent display.

TAB AND SLOT FIT

Approve the body and base as one physical sample

Slot fit is a relationship among the body tab, base slot, material thickness, cut geometry and expected assembly behavior. A tight fit can make assembly difficult or stress the acrylic. A loose fit can create visible wobble, leaning or an unstable display.

Review insertion on the actual production-style sample, not only on a prototype made from a different material or process. Check the stand on a level surface, rotate it to the intended viewing direction and repeat the body/base pairing across representative samples.

RIGIDITY AND STABILITY

Review height, narrow points and center of gravity together

A 3 mm body can perform well when the geometry and base support the intended display. The same sheet can behave differently in a compact figure and a tall, top-heavy silhouette.

Taller bodies create more leverage at the tab and can make small base movement more visible.

Horizontal reach

Wide poses, props and off-center artwork can shift the center of gravity beyond a narrow base.

Narrow sections

Body and base artwork need one orientation rule

Record the intended front view and the direction of base text or graphics. A correct body can still be assembled over a reversed base if the SKU matrix and sample record do not show orientation clearly.

Mechanical edits require artwork review

Changing the tab, slot, base footprint or overall body size can move printed details relative to cut edges. Treat those changes as both mechanical and graphic revisions before releasing the final file.

Is 3 mm acrylic suitable for every stand size?

No single thickness fits every shape and height. A 3 mm sheet is widely used for compact and medium merchandise, but the final choice should consider overall height, width, narrow points, base footprint, slot fit, handling and packaging. Large or top-heavy designs may need a different structure or a thicker option.

Should the base slot be exactly 3.0 mm wide?

Do not release the slot from the nominal sheet thickness alone. Actual material thickness, cutting route, print or protective layers, tab geometry and the intended insertion feel all affect fit. Approve the body and base as one physical sample and record the final production dimensions.

Can several 3 mm stand designs share one base?

A shared base can be reviewed when the tab geometry, center of gravity, print direction and insertion feel are compatible. Each design should still be tested in the shared base, because a stable fit for one shape does not prove stability for a taller or wider SKU.
